With such a unique car, there are some parts that
do not exist for this conversion. Where they don't exist, they have to be made.
This is the case of the exhaust system. The 332ti retains the
dual catalytic converters from a 95 M3, but the exhaust is unique. The exhaust begin
it's life as a B&B TriFlow exhaust for an E36 M3 with DTM tips.
It's gorgeous polished finish and full 304-stainless construction was a work of
art.
For our project, B&B Fabrications cut
and swedged the exhaust just before the exhaust tubes entered the muffler. This
allowed us to cut excess material off to ensure it matched the rear of the cats.
This also allowed us to rotate the tubes slightly so that no portion
of the exhaust hits the body of the car (very important) as the car is very different than
a normal E36 in the back.
As the M3 muffler is much more narrow
than a stock 318ti muffler, it must be fitted towards the driver side of the car as that's
where a normal aftermarket M3 exhaust will direct it. Therefore, it will provide a
lot of space between the exhuast and the spare tire (a good thing).
 In
order for the exhuast to be mounted, a new rear hanger must be fabricated to use the
factory rubber mounts. A U-bolt was welded to the floorpan so that it could use the
stock hanger on the B&B muffler. The hanger on the otherside of the muffer had
to be cut off and welded towards the front of the muffler (driver side) to be able to use
the other stock 318ti muffer hanger mount.
Unfortuantely, the DTM tips had to be cut off as they stuck out way
too far.
The car sounds AWESOME, but perhaps a little loud for most people
for long trips. However, it's just music to my ears! Thanks, B&B!
